City Places First in It’s Time Texas Challenge Contest

The City of Los Fresnos has placed first in the small community category for the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge.

City Manager Mark Milum presented a trophy to Mayor Polo Narvaez during Tuesday’s April 9, meeting of the city council.

The contest is part of a statewide campaign that empowers people to lead healthier lives and, at the same time, build healthier communities. It’s supported by HEB supermarkets.

A total of 358 communities participated in the campaign.

In addition to Los Fresnos, the cities of McAllen took the large community award while Harlingen picked up the mid-size community prize. Austin grabbed the metro award in the contest.

In other actions, the council approved proclamations:

  • Declaring May 2, 2019 as National Day of Prayer in the City of Los Fresnos.
  • For National Hurricane Preparedness Week May 5-May 11, 2019.
  • Declaring the week of May 19-25, 2019 as National Emergency Medical Services Week in the City of Los Fresnos.
  • Declaring May 15, 2019 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and the week of May 13-19, 2019 as National Police Week in the City of Los Fresnos.
