Los Fresnos Area Chamber of Commerce Holds Luncheon

The Los Fresnos Area Chamber of Commerce met for their luncheon on Tuesday, August 27 at Arnies’ Winghouse. Mrs. Badeaux welcomed guests and the following new members: Los Fresnos Fitness Center, Little Caesars and Directory Publishing Corporation, Sandra Roberts of Rodeo Dental , Noemi Escalante of Wells Fargo. She also announced the relocation of Easy to Go Tacos, Team Graphics and The Flower Gallery.

Rev. Feliberto Pereira from Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries introduced his guest, Reynaldo Segura from Cuba. Tony Lopez of Lone Star Bank introduced himself as a guest.

New members announced included: Los Fresnos Fitness Center, Little Caesars and Directory Publishing Corporation.
The program this month was given by the Members themselves. The floor was opened for discussion and ideas on how to improve business and on ways that The Chamber can better serve its members.

Sandra Roberts of Rodeo Dental passed out toothbrushes and floss to all those present. She talked about the growth in The Valley and how businesses needed to support each other and their community.

Mark Milum, Los Fresnos City Manager, spoke about growth in Los Fresnos. New businesses will be McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Church’s Chicken and a new apartment complex.

Sergio Rodriquez, representing Accion Texas, discussed how this nonprofit organization provides tools needed to grow a small business: credit and training.

Jennifer Lozano, public relations, presented the group with an advertisement being sponsored by The Chamber in The Los Fresnos News. The advertisement will be to encourage people to shop locally in Los Fresnos. Each advertisement will run once a month at a cost of $20.00 a month with a different business profile rotating each month into the featured spot. She will be contacting businesses personally and offering them an opportunity to purchase an advertisement.

Mrs. Badeaux presented members with the changes in The Chamber office. The new Office Manager is Regina Taylor. She will be taking care of the running of the office itself thereby enabling Mrs. Badeaux and Jennifer Lozano to visit with each of the present members to discuss how The Chamber can improve services to its members and also they will be recruiting new members.
The following new Chamber Board Directors were announced, Joe Aquilar, Cynthia Sellers and Val Champion.

Upcoming events, which are listed on the website, were discussed. The next event will be Octoberfest on October 31, 2013 at Memorial Park.

Mrs. Badeaux reminded everyone of the start of the Los Fresnos football season and the girls’ volleyball season.
Drawing for the disaster fund gifts was held. Gifts were provided by, Pana Scott, Regina Taylor, Feliberto Pereira, Carmen Amaya of Wells Fargo Bank, Amalia Saldivar of The Flower Gallery, Barbara Collum, Diana Salazar of First Community Bank, Carlota Narvaez and O’Reilly Auto Parts.

Mrs. Badeaux announced that the next meeting will be held at the new Judge Luis Romero Annex Building.

Upcoming events in the area include: CBR (Championship Bull Riding) event September 14, Octoberfest, Christmas Parade December 14, Elvis Festival January 11&12, PRCA Rodeo January 31-February 2, and Miss Los Fresnos Pageant April 5.
