CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— Michael Martin Murphey returns to the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on Sunday, December 8th at 7:30pm for the ninth straight year as part of the Gloria and Robert R. Furgason Bravo! Series. Since his first Performing Arts Center concert in 2005, Murphey’s “Cowboy Christmas” has become an Islander tradition for Coastal Bend residents and Winter Texans alike and sells out early every year.

Best known for his 1975 hit “Wildfire,” this year Murphey hit the Top Ten of the Billboard Magazine Bluegrass charts one week after his new album’s release. “Red River Drifter” is an Americana blend of Murphey’s influences over the years, touching not only on bluegrass, but pop, jazz, country and even classical. Produced and co-written with his son, Ryan, and guitar ace Pat Flynn, it is also Murphey’s first album of all new original songs in nearly 20 years.

Murphey broke ground in 1987 with his innovative Christmas show. During his concert, Murphey mixes Christmas classics such as “Joy to the World,” “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” with country holiday favorites like “Christmas Cowboy Style,” “The Cowboy Christmas Ball” and “Two-Step Round the Christmas Tree.”

His nostalgic, down-home, inspirational Christmas show appeals to a broad cross-section of fans and, each year, plays before large audiences in more than 40 cities across the country.

Tickets range in price from $26-$36 and can be purchased online at tamucc.tix.com or by calling (361)825-ARTS (2787) Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Furgason Bravo! Series continues on February 14 with a Valentine’s “Evening with Hal Linden.” Linden, best known at TV’s “Barney Miller,” spices up the Performing Arts Center stage with a dose of nostalgia. Backed by a seven-piece band, Linden performs some of America’s greatest songs and Broadway hits.
