State of Real Estate Forum Scheduled for Nov. 5

 

The Cameron County offices of Edwards Abstract and Title Company host the third annual State of Real Estate Forum Nov. 5, offering local, state and national economic outlook; demographic information, jobs creation and other data. The event is free and takes place from 9-11 a.m. at Rancho Viejo Country Club Conference Center, 1 Rancho Viejo Drive, Rancho Viejo.

Keynote speaker Mark G. Dotzour will address the “Economic Outlook for Investors and Business Decision Makers.” Dotzour’s goal is to provide his audience with a “tool kit” of useful information that will help them make good business decisions for their families, their clients and their company.

Dotzour is a real estate economist who served for 18 years as chief economist and director of research at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. He has given more than 1,370 presentations to more than 230,000 people and has written over 90 articles for magazines and journals. His research findings have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Money Magazine and Business Week. His clients include banks, private equity firms, real estate investments trusts, construction firms, engineering companies, wealth managers, private foundations, and commercial and residential brokerage firms.

Senior Vice President for Research, Innovation and Economic Development for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Theresa A. Maldonado will also speak. Maldonado has extensive experience at the federal level in advancing research, development and commercialization initiatives. She recently served as director of the Engineering Education and Centers Division at the National Science Foundation in the Washington, DC, area. Prior to joining UTRGV, Maldonado was special assistant to the CEO of the Texas A&M Health Science Center in College Station, where she served as a member of the executive committee, providing leadership in developing, implementing, and communicating key initiatives on behalf of the Office of the CEO. In addition, she was a tenured faculty member in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department.

Maldonado’s academic career spans nearly 25 years at Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Arlington, with 14 of those years in various research administration roles. At Texas A&M, this included associate vice chancellor for Research of the Texas A&M University System, which is comprised of 11 universities, seven state agencies, and the health science center.

Admission to the State of Real Estate Forum is free, but reservations are required with a registration deadline set at Oct. 30. Registration for the forum begins at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event.
