LFCISD Board Welcomes New Teachers to District

Sixteen teachers were approved by the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees at its regular monthly meeting Monday at the Board Room/Training Center. Ten of the teachers were present and were recognized by trustees.

The new teachers include:

Los Fresnos High School

  • Michelle Douglas, English/ESL
  • Griselda Galvez, Science
  • Cruz Omar Gonzalez, Agriculture
  • Angela Lacoste, Social Studies
  • Kevin Nguyen, English (also head wrestling coach)
  • Melissa Rendon, Criminal Justice
  • Patricia Torres, Science
  • Rebecca Valdez, Physical Education (also head girls’ basketball coach)

Los Fresnos United

  • Patricia Dawn Aguilar-Snyder, Physical Education (also head cross country coach)
  • Ricardo Casanova, Mathematics
  • Kaylyn Villarreal, Special Education
  • Alfonso Senteno, Social Studies

Elementary Schools

  • Diana Cervantes, Laureles Elementary
  • Celsy Conde-Bravo, Laureles Elementary
  • Susanna T. Perales, Olmito Elementary
  • Brian Cole, Rancho Verde Elementary
  • Angelica Limon, Rancho Verde Elementary

At the start of the meeting, trustees held a Public Hearing to discuss the Optional Flexible School Day Program. They also recognized student Armando Vega for earning the Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Competition, and recognized the Los Fresnos CISD Transportation Department for earning the TASB Risk Management Fund Excellence Award.

On the Action Items portion of the agenda, trustees approved the following:

  • cash purchase of one new 12-passenger van and two new 7-passenger SUVs from TASB Buyboard Vendor Caldwell Country
  • Agreements/contracts for CSP #16-17-34, Villareal Elementary School pavement rehabilitation, to G&T Paving.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Texas State Technical College for CTE Dual Enrollment Programs for the 2017-18 school year.
  • Authorizing the Superintendent to accept consulting fee from Region One Education Service Center for a Superintendent mentorship program.

Under the Consent Agenda, trustees approved the following:

  • Minutes for meetings held on May 8, 2017 and May 22, 2017
  • Budget Amendment #11 for Fiscal Year 2017
  • Ad-Valorem tax refunds for the month of May 2017.
  • Interlocal Agreement With Lubbock-Cooper Independent School District to participate in the Lubbock-Cooper ISD Purchasing Group.
  • Agreements/contracts with independent contractors for Engineering Services for the 2017-18 school year.
  • Agreements/contracts with independent contractors for architectural services for the 2017-18 school year.
  • Agreements/contracts with independent contractors for staff development.
  • Agreements/contracts with independent contractors for character development and college and career readiness.
  • Los Fresnos CISD intent to apply for the Optional Flexible School Day Program (OFSDP) for the 2017-18 School Year.
  • Revisions to (LOCAL) policies as recommended by TASB Policy Service and according to the summary recommendations based on the TASB Localized Policy Review Session held on January 24, 2017 – Second Reading.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Los Fresnos CISD and the Cameron County for participation in the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) for the 2017-18 School Year.
  • Board training opportunities for the 2017-18 School Year:
