LFISD Trustees Approve New Director, Teacher

At the regular meeting of the Los Fresnos Consolidated School Board held Monday, March 4, Ben Estrada was approved by the Board as the new Director of Accountability Research and Evaluation. Estrada will succeed Marty Vasquez, who announced her retirement effective June 30.

Elva Gracia was also approved as a Resaca Middle School teacher.

In Other Action …

Trustees took action on the following items:

  • Approved a Resolution Declaring $1,268,426 General Fund Balance as Surplus and Allocating it to the Interest and Sinking Fund.
  • Approved Budget Amendment #9 for Fiscal Year 2012-2013.
  • Approved minutes for meeting held on Feb. 11.
  • Approved Budget Amendment #8 for Fiscal Year 2012-2013.
  • Approved Ad Valorem Tax Refunds for March 2013.
  • ApprovedAgreements/Contracts with Independent Contractors for Professional Services for the 2012-2013 school year.
  • Approved Revisions to the Memorandum ofUnderstanding (MOU) with AMI Kids Rio Grande Valley.

Trustees also heard a report from Moak, Casey and Associates about school finance and accountability.

Los Fresnos CISD Board of TrusteesBoard meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Los Fresnos CISD Training Center/Board Room, located next to Los Fresnos Elementary School on Texas Highway 100.

Current board trustees include: Sandra Garcia, President; Darlene Pederson, Vice-President; Ruben Treviño, Secretary;
Jesus Amaya, Assistant Secretary; Martin Castillo, Trustee Rey Farias, Trustee; Leonel Garza, Trustee; Gonzalo Salazar, Superintendent; and Elizabeth Neally, Board Attorney.

The next meeting will a Special Meeting on Monday, March 25 at Villareal Elementary. The next regular board meeting will be held Monday, April 11.
