District Named to Star Honor Roll for Third Time

For the third straight year, Los Fresnos CISD has been selected as an Honor Roll School District by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Institute for Productivity in Education (IPE).

The selection is the result of an extensive analysis of student data for every public school and school district in Texas.

Los Fresnos CISD was one of only seven school districts in Texas named to the Honor Roll. The District was one of three to have received the honor three straight years, or since the inception of the award in Texas in 2015-16.

The other two school districts to receive the award three straight years were also in the Rio Grande Valley –– Roma ISD and Sharyland ISD.

Seven Los Fresnos CISD elementary schools – Laureles, Lopez-Riggins, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Palmer-Laakso Rancho Verde and Villareal elementary schools – were named Star Honor Roll Schools. They are among 729 statewide higher-performing schools that are distinguished for their academic achievement and for closing achievement gaps.

Three elementary schools – Olmito Elementary, Rancho Verde Elementary and Villareal Elementary – were also named STEM honor roll schools.

“This recognition is a testament of the commitment and dedication of our District’s staff and students,” Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar said. “Having our District named to the Honor Roll validates the efforts of our instructional staff who work with a relentless, laser-like focus on helping students achieve their full potential. This achievement speaks highly of the work of our campus leadership and the high expectations of an entire community.”

The 2017-18 Honor Roll includes public elementary, K-8, and high schools that are recognized for demonstrating consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. For high schools, Honor Roll recognition includes high college readiness in students.

Now in its third year, the Texas Honor Roll recognized higher performing, higher poverty schools that are distinguished for their academic achievement and for closing achievement gaps.
