About 900 teachers received were entertained by students and listened to a powerful presentation during Convocation Tuesday at the Los Fresnos United Dome.
Convocation is the annual gathering of all teachers from the district’s 14 campuses. Teachers returned to work Monday and have been taking part in professional learning for the first four days of the week.
The Los Fresnos High School Mariachi and Conjunto both performed to the delight of the crowd while the spotlight was on the stage performers. Many were recording the event on their mobile phones, creating an atmosphere of dozens of small lights illuminating the dome.
The Mariachi and Stars Dance team performed a medley of songs from the Coco movie. The big hit of the audience were several Los Fresnos Elementary student dancers who had painted faces representing the Day of the Dead theme.
The Conjunto and Folklorico also performed a huapango medley – Redoblando and Bailamos Tia. Numerous teachers and administrators took the floor to dance to the music.
The featured motivational speaker was enthusiastic Sam Glenn, nicknamed “The Attitude Guy.” Glenn message about attitude was entertaining, inspirational and hysterical, keeping teachers amused throughout the hour-long talk.
Glenn, the author of the book “Share Your Popcorn,” has appeared on numerous national television talk shows and radio programs.
Glenn started out his presentation by drawing a colorful eagle on canvas. The photo started as many lines that appeared disorganized. Within seven minutes, Glenn transformed the painting into a finished mini-masterpiece that delighted the crowd.
The program ended with the traditional playing of the LFHS Alma Mater as everyone stood and held hands.
