Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Spring Break 2019 is here and for some people that means additional work.<\/p>\n<p>Although area students took their spring recess last week, this week is equally busy as other schools, colleges and universities are off this week.<\/p>\n<p>And for Los Fresnos Police Department the month of March is one of the years busiest.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of vehicles cruise along Texas Highway 100 on their way to or from South Padre Island, one of the country\u2019s major destinations.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Hector Gonzalez said drivers should take some precautions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t drink and drive,\u201d he said. \u201cObey the laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gonzalez said anyone, whether from the Rio Grande Valley or from other Texas areas, should have a designated driver if they happen to drink booze.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dStay over on the Island,\u201d he advises people. \u201cBe responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gonzalez said twice as many officers will be on duty during spring break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, so good,\u201d he said. \u201cTraffic has been picking up but it has been kind of quiet.
