The City of Los Fresnos has placed first in the small community category for the It\u2019s Time Texas Community Challenge.<\/p>\n

City Manager Mark Milum presented a trophy to Mayor Polo Narvaez during Tuesday\u2019s April 9, meeting of the city council.<\/p>\n

The contest is part of a statewide campaign that empowers people to lead healthier lives and, at the same time, build healthier communities. It\u2019s supported by HEB supermarkets.<\/p>\n

A total of 358 communities participated in the campaign.<\/p>\n

In addition to Los Fresnos, the cities of McAllen took the large community award while Harlingen picked up the mid-size community prize. Austin grabbed the metro award in the contest.<\/p>\n

In other actions, the council approved proclamations:<\/p>\n

  • Declaring May 2, 2019 as National Day of Prayer in the City of Los Fresnos.<\/li>\n
  • For National Hurricane Preparedness Week May 5-May 11, 2019.<\/li>\n
  • Declaring the week of May 19-25, 2019 as National Emergency Medical Services Week in the City of Los Fresnos.<\/li>\n
  • Declaring May 15, 2019 as Peace Officers\u2019 Memorial Day and the week of May 13-19, 2019 as National Police Week in the City of Los Fresnos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
