The annual event is one of the most anticipated comic book celebrations of the year, as retailers prepare to welcome curious, first-time comic book readers and seasoned comic book fans into their stores for free comics and exciting events.<\/p>\n

\u201cFree Comic book Day is a great event for everyone! It\u2019s an opportunity for newcomers to dive into the world of comics, and for longtime readers to try a new title they may not have picked up otherwise. The wide selection of comics available allows readers of all kinds to explore new and exciting worlds and travel to far off places,\u201d said Free Comic Book Day spokesperson, Ashton Greenwood.<\/p>\n

\"\"The fifty-one free comic book titles available this year are designed to appeal to a broad range of tastes. This year\u2019s diverse selection includes superhero stories, like Marvel\u2019s\u00a0Avengers<\/em>, and\u00a0Spider-Man\/ Venom<\/em>\u00a0#1, as well as DC\u2019s\u00a0Catwoman: Under the Moon\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Dear Justice League<\/em>; popular kids titles such as\u00a0Minecraft, The Incredibles<\/em>,\u00a0Star Wars Adventures,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Pok\u00e9mon<\/em>, and TV tie-ins featuring series like\u00a0Riverdale<\/em>,\u00a0Doctor Who<\/em>, and\u00a0Stranger Things<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn May 4th<\/sup>, we encourage fans to use Free Comic Book Day as an opportunity to explore their local comic shop and discover all it has to offer,\u201d said Greenwood. \u201cOur hope is that everyone will walk away with comics they can\u2019t wait to read and share, and then return to their local shop to become a part of the pop-culture community and embark on more adventures through comics!\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with giving out free comics, many comic shops host community events throughout the day, such as creator signings, character appearances, costume contests, plus great sales and deals on exclusive items.<\/p>\n
