Courtesy photo<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A Los Fresnos resident won second place in an international barber contest held in Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Alvarez, a 10 year veteran barber, attended the event last month and came home with a trophy, $500 worth of supplies for his shop and is proud of his accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, he said he was the only person representing the Rio Grande Valley in a competition that brought the best barbers from all the over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Alvarez owns Champs Barber Shop at Highway 100 and Paredes Line Road in the old Pitti\u2019s Pizza location.<\/p>\n<p>He said attending and taking the number two spot has been one of his greatest achievements in life.<\/p>\n<p>Alvarez went to a cosmetology college in Weslaco and attended Los Fresnos school district.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN A Los Fresnos resident won second place in an international barber contest held in Connecticut.
