Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>For many men, the word doctor means out of the door as they believe there is nothing wrong with them but such an attitude could spell trouble.<\/p>\n<p>That is why AARP decided to hold its first Men\u2019s Health Forum to look into the pros and cons of health issues that might impact the lives of many men.<\/p>\n<p>An array of topics, ranging from prostate and skin cancer prevention to teeth, the heart, poor sleep and Alzheimer\u2019s Disease, were covered during the nearly four-hour meeting held at the Brownsville Event Center and sponsored by the non-profit AARP organization.<\/p>\n<p>Four medical doctors, one dentist and one pharmacist spoke to a crowd made up mostly of men, women and senior citizens on what they should do to if they want to stay healthy and live longer.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Alberto Almeida and Dr. Nolan Perez said simple prevention measures are the key to ensure a better life for many people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStretching out before bedtime is a good step,\u201d Almeida said. \u201cExercising and meditation can help relieve stress.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10447\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10447\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10447\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/022.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"421\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/022.jpg 600w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/022-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10447\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Alberto Almeida describes how much weight he lost following the Mediterranean diet. Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p>He said people should worry about the things they can fix and not what they can\u2019t.<br \/>\nDr. Roberto Robles, a Brownsville cardiologist, said he recommends that people exercise 30 minutes at least five days a week.<\/p>\n<p>He said walking, swimming, bicycling, jogging, lifting weights are good ways to keep the heart healthy and also recommends annual checkups to make sure everything is okay.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Michael Hohnadel, who specializes in skin issues, said people should wear sun block of an SPF 30 and above, while Dr. Jordan Pirtle, a dentist, said taking care of one\u2019s teeth can lead to a healthier life.<\/p>\n<p>Brushing twice a day and flossing once a day or using a water pick are helpful tools in the prevention of teeth-related diseases.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bobby Muniz, a pharmacist, said exercising and a good sleep are some of the keys for a healthy life.<\/p>\n<p>The forum was part of AARP ongoing series to promote a better living among men and women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN For many men, the word doctor means out of the door as they believe there is nothing wrong with them but such an attitude could spell trouble.
