Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first passport fair held this year in Cameron County has been described as a success and more events are in the works to inform people and to apply for the document required to travel outside the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Close to 70 people showed up Saturday, July 13 at the county annex building on Texas Highway 100 in Los Fresnos.<\/p>\n<p>Among them were Maria Gallardo.<\/p>\n<p>She said she applied for her passport and was glad to have the opportunity to do it here and on a Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, some of us don\u2019t have time to go and apply during the work week,\u201d Gallardo said. \u201cI hope they do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said she still needs to apply for passports for her three children.<\/p>\n<p>The fair was held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the county\u2019s annex building at 745 W. Ocean Blvd. as a public service provided by Cameron County District Clerk Eric Garza.<\/p>\n<p>He described the fair as a success due to the number of people who showed up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnytime you have fifty people you are doing well,\u201d he said. \u201cIt provides enough funds to pay for overtime to our employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garza said his office has 42 employees who are certified when it comes to processing passports.<\/p>\n<p>A passport application costs $110 and $30 if an applicant seeks a travel card which is good to go by land and sea to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda.<\/p>\n<p>The next passport fairs will be held as follows:<\/p>\n<p>July 27 \u2013 Port Isabel County Annex Building.<\/p>\n<p>August 10 \u2013 Brownsville Texas Regional Bank<\/p>\n<p>August 17, 2019 \u2013 Cameron County Tax Assessor- Collector Office<\/p>\n<p>August 24 \u2013 Brownsville Texas Regional Bank<\/p>\n<p>September 7 \u2013 Brownsville Valley Federal Credit Union<\/p>\n<p>September 14 \u2013 Harlingen Valley Federal Credit Union<\/p>\n<p>September 28 \u2013 Harlingen Texas Regional Bank<\/p>\n<p>October 12 \u2013 Brownsville Projecto Juan Diego<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please call the district clerk office at: 956-544-0838.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN The first passport fair held this year in Cameron County has been described as a success and more events are in the works to inform people and to apply for the document required to travel outside the United States.
