The upcoming city election scheduled for later this year has been canceled by Los Fresnos City Council.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because no one filed to run against Commissioner Juan Munoz in the Nov. 3 city election.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Swain Real is emptying his seat and it will be filled be Andy Lopez.<\/p>\n

Lopez is the only candidate who filed for Real\u2019s spot and will secure a seat on the council.<\/p>\n

On a related issue, the city council approved the city secretary certification of unopposed candidates and a first reading of Ordinance 506, declaring the unopposed candidates and canceling the election during Tuesday, Sept. 3 special meeting.<\/p>\n

By canceling the election the city will save money in election expenses.<\/p>\n

In other actions, the council approved:<\/p>\n

– Updating the water and wastewater rates on the city fee schedule for an effective date of Oct. 1, 2019.<\/p>\n

– A first reading of Ordinance 503 adopting the budget.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Approved a first reading of Ordinance 504, which called for approving the 2019 tax roll and levying municipal ad valorem taxes for the use, benefit and support of the city and directing the assessment and collection thereof.<\/p>\n

– Service agreements with Los Fresnos Volunteer Fire Department, Ambulance Service, Chamber of Commerce and the Boys & Girls Club.<\/p>\n
