Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people enjoyed and admired the sculptures at the 32rd annual Sand Castle Day on SPI.<\/p>\n<p>Among them were Los Fresnos residents Giselda Padilla, her daughter Samantha, and people from all the Rio Grande Valley and the<\/p>\n<p>Lone Star State such as Glenn and Molly Walden of Fort Worth and Robert and Joyce Bradford of Georgetown.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day event ended with award presentations for the top three master sculptors held on Saturday. Oct. 5, and with the people\u2018s choice award on the following day at Clayton\u2019s Beach Bar &amp; Event Venue.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve sand castles were built for the contest made by the sand artists some of whom came from Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, Canada and from as far as Holland.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Abe Waterman took the top spot, something which he has done several times in the last 12 years he has been competing at the Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes a lot of practice to work on sand castles,\u201d he said, when asked what makes a master sculptor. \u201cYou also have to have a lot of passion for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10883\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10883\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10883\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/sandcatlles-NNO-Primera-010.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/sandcatlles-NNO-Primera-010.jpg 600w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/sandcatlles-NNO-Primera-010-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10883\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Giselda, left, and Samantha Padilla said the sand sculptures have been getting bigger and better every year. Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On Saturday, Oct. 6, hundreds of people walked around the exhibit area to admire the sand castles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe quality of the workmanship is amazing,\u201d said Joyce Bradford. \u201cWe have been coming to the Island on and off through the years but this our first time here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Giselda Padilla said this is the eighth or ninth time they made it to Sand Castle Days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year it gets bigger,\u201d she said. \u201cThis year\u2019s sculptures are impressive and have a lot more details.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN Thousands of people enjoyed and admired the sculptures at the 32rd annual Sand Castle Day on SPI.
