One of the biggest events linked to the annual Los Fresnos Rodeo is coming up and it\u2019s shaping up to be a hot and tasty one.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the Cowboy Cook-off!<\/p>\n

Up to $5,000 in prizes will be given out to the top chefs that come out with winning entries in the pan de campo, fajitas, brisket, spare ribs, chicken and frijoles categories.<\/p>\n

The cook-off will be held Friday, Nov. 15th and Saturday, Nov. 16th and it will kick off with the fajita division.<\/p>\n

In addition to the prizes awarded to the grand and reserved grand champion and the next five places, a people\u2019s choice will also be presented.<\/p>\n

The people\u2019s choice award will be picked by people voting for the distinction that carries a trophy and $100.<\/p>\n

On Satuday, the cook-off will be highlighted by a series of concerts brought by 3BAT Production.<\/p>\n

Starting at 1p.m., six groups will entertain the crowds through midnight.<\/p>\n

They are la Bomba Loca, Inevitable, Eztigma, Conteno, Carino and HomeTown Boys.<\/p>\n

Jerry Bruce, a member of Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee, said they are seeking judges for the cookoff and urged anyone interested to contact them at LFRODEO.COM<\/a>.<\/p>\n

George Gomez, another committee member, said the hope is to make the cook-off as big of event as the annual rodeo.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started off with a little rodeo,\u201d he said, \u201cand look what we have today.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the Cook-off, there will also be a car show from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, and the Buckin Good Time Market.<\/p>\n

Rodeo committee member Larry Cantu said all the events, except entry to the rodeo bleachers, are free to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
