Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>As the newest business in Los Fresnos that specializes in Mexican-styled breads and cookies, Godoy\u2019s Bakery is taking orders for the traditional Rosca de Reyes.<\/p>\n<p>The round-shaped bread is a fixture during Three Kings Day, which is celebrated by some in the Hispanic world on Jan. 6, or Dia de la Epifania.<\/p>\n<p>Godoy\u2019s opened its doors this past October near the corner of Ocean and Arroyo boulevards.<\/p>\n<p>Brownsville resident Sabino Godoy and brother, Cristobal, decided to take the plunge by joining the local business community in this city which they said is growing fast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been watching the growth taking place here in Los Fresnos,\u201d Sabino Godoy said. \u201cSo we decided to bring a bakery here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Godoy said he learned to bake breads in a Brownsville bakery where he worked for 13 years.<\/p>\n<p>Although a Rosca de Reyes is to be consumed on Jan. 6, he said they are taking orders from now on until that day so people get to enjoy the pastry.<\/p>\n<p>A rosca is supposed to contain one or more baby Jesus and whenever a person happens to get a slice of bread and finds the plastic figure inside it, he or she is supposed to throw a gathering and gets the honor of providing tamales to be shared among them on Feb. 2, known as Dia de la Candelaria, or Candlemas.<\/p>\n<p>However, those who do not follow this tradition simply enjoy a slice with a cup of hot coffee or milk.<\/p>\n<p>Godoy\u2019s opens as early as 5 a.m. seven days a week. Abby\u2019s will also have Roscas de Reyes, starting this Jan. 4.
