Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A new delicatessen shop is coming to Los Fresnos and the Commuinity Development is welcoming them with a show of economic support.<\/p>\n<p>Called Stephany\u2019s Cheesecake, the business received a $650 grant from Los Fresnos CDC. That is half of the estimated cost for such a sign.<\/p>\n<p>The shop is in the Plaza Linda strip mall on FM 803.<\/p>\n<p>CDC board members Irene Romero and Robert Lopez met with the shop owner and recommended to approve the funding.<br \/>\nIn other actions:<\/p>\n<p>Desi Martinez, the CDC economic liason, requested money to buy four roadside signs informing motorists about the upcoming Los Fresnos Rodeo.<\/p>\n<p>He said the signs are part of the city\u2019s branding campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Although Martinez requested less than $200 to buy four six-foot by thee-foot signs, the board approved to allocate up to $1,000 for the purchase.<\/p>\n<p>The action was approved after CDC board member Enrique Juarez suggested to buy larger signs.<\/p>\n<p>Once secured, the signs could end up along FM 803, Texas Highway 100 and on south or north Arroyo Boulevard, also known as Paredes Line Road and as FM 1847.<\/p>\n<p>Martinez said a count of vehicles shows some 25,000 cars and trucks regularly go through Los Fresnos.<\/p>\n<p>The board heard an economic update from City Manager Mark Milum.<\/p>\n<p>He said the city collection rate is at 28 percent, getting $108,000 more compared to the same time a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>The latest sales tax is up by nearly 23 percent, while the collection rate for the last three months shows an increase of 13 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is outstanding,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are no items of concern.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN A new delicatessen shop is coming to Los Fresnos and the Commuinity Development is welcoming them with a show of economic support.
