{"id":11593,"date":"2020-05-14T17:22:20","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T17:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=11593"},"modified":"2020-05-14T17:22:20","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T17:22:20","slug":"poll-gm-customers-oppose-clean-car-standards-rollback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=11593","title":{"rendered":"Poll: GM customers oppose clean-car standards rollback"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"651\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/gr-69969-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11569\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/gr-69969-1-1.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/gr-69969-1-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/gr-69969-1-1-768x510.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Among those who own General Motors vehicles, a new poll says 87 percent believe the company should support stronger pollution standards to protect the environment and improve gas mileage. <\/em><\/strong>Photo: jirkaF\/Pixabay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By ROZ BROWN<\/strong><br>Texas News Service<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUSTIN, Texas \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/resources\/owners-want-gm-support-cleaner-cars\">A new poll<\/a>&nbsp;suggests that automakers would be wise to accelerate investments in clean-car technology if they value their customers \u2014 in Texas and elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey of General Motors vehicle owners found that the company\u2019s \u201cfavorable\u201d rating dropped from 93% to 44% after the owners learned about GM\u2019s failure to support vehicle pollution standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Too often, said Catherine Flowers, Texas field organizer for the group&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.momscleanairforce.org\/\">Moms Clean Air Force<\/a>, pollution from the state\u2019s 17 million automobiles is an invisible enemy, much like COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven as America\u2019s struggling with the response to the global pandemic, putting more polluting cars on American roads hurts us all,\u201d she said. \u201cThis kind of pollution actually is an equal opportunity offender \u2014 just like COVID.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lung.org\/\">American Lung Association\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;new&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stateoftheair.org\/\">\u201cState of the Air\u201d annual report<\/a>&nbsp;showed air quality in the United States is declining dramatically. Austin is listed as the most-polluted Texas city in terms of smog, while Houston ranks 14th in ozone pollution nationwide and Dallas-Fort Worth ranks 21st.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The General Motors polls showed that opposition to clean-car standards is hurting the company\u2019s reputation. Matt George, founder and principal pollster at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/mattgeorgeassociates.com\/\">Matt George Associates<\/a>, said he believes it reveals a pattern of questionable corporate behavior that could result in lost sales for dealerships if customer loyalty wanes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey have in some sense broken a promise to consumers after their bailout in 2009, when they said that they would create more fuel-efficient vehicles,\u201d he said. \u201cOnce their consumers find that hasn\u2019t really happened, they\u2019re much less likely to purchase a GM vehicle in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll also found that three in four GM owners would have a better opinion of the automaker if the company reversed course and opposed the Trump administration\u2019s move to revoke California\u2019s stricter emission standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll information is online at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/resources\/owners-want-gm-support-cleaner-cars\">ucsusa.org<\/a>, and the State of the Air report is at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stateoftheair.org\/\">stateoftheair.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By ROZ BROWNTexas News Service AUSTIN, Texas \u2014&nbsp;A new poll&nbsp;suggests that automakers would be wise to accelerate investments in clean-car technology if they value their customers \u2014 in Texas and elsewhere.
