LOS FRESNOS – Nearly 100 essential workers were treated to lunch by the good hands of the local Allstate Insurance office in Los Fresnos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First responders with the Emergency Medical Services as well as the Los Fresnos Fire and Police departments responded to a call made by the business run by David Armendariz, a local leader who is constantly working in many community events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armendariz said he came up with the idea to provide lunch to those whose jobs are essential, particularly during today\u2019s pandemic that has been impacting people\u2019s lives like never before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the hundreds of positive COVID-19 cases throughout Cameron County, several have occurred here in Los Fresnos, including the recent death of a 70-year-old man, according to a May 29 county health department report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armendariz said he decided to hold a \u201cReal Heroes Don\u2019t Wear Capes, They Wear Badges\u201d appreciation lunch for first responders on Saturday, May 30, to thank those behind the front lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he got hold of a local business, Dirty Dawg BBQ, who provided pulled pork sandwiches, chips, water and soft drinks to the nearly 100 that showed up at the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Los Fresnos Little League Baseball Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armendariz said the appreciation lunch was to recognize first responders and other people for what they have been doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really important to thank them for everything they have done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
