{"id":11778,"date":"2020-06-25T17:47:12","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T17:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=11778"},"modified":"2020-06-25T17:47:15","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T17:47:15","slug":"progress-on-los-fresnos-hike-bike-trail-project-continues-to-move-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=11778","title":{"rendered":"Progress on Los Fresnos hike &#038; bike trail project continues to move forward"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Hike-Bike-trail-story-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Hike-Bike-trail-story-photo.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Hike-Bike-trail-story-photo-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Hike-Bike-trail-story-photo-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>The hike and bike trail will be built east of the Los Fresnos Nature Park.<\/em><\/strong> Photo: Tony Vindell \/ LFN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By TONY VINDELL<br><\/strong>LFN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LOS FRESNOS &#8211; Although the Los Fresnos City Council did not take action to award a bid to a company that will build the city\u2019s new hike and bike trail, the project has advanced one step closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Estimated at a cost of more than a $1 million, the trail will run from the west side of the city\u2019s Nature Park, cross Texas Highway 100, and ultimately connect with Cara Cara Trail and downtown Brownsville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trail will become part of a countywide project that will include the Bahia Grande, Laguna Vista, Rio Hondo and Harlingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City Manager Mark Milum said five bids were submitted for the bike and trail project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city council will award a bid to a company at the next city council meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other actions, the council approved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A first reading of Ordinance 511 to annex territory and extend the city\u2019s boundary limits.<\/li><li>A bid and the awarding of a contract for a wastewater treatment plant chlorine contact basin and chemical feed system.<\/li><li>A bank depository service with First Community Bank.<\/li><li>Appointing Leo Casanova to the board of the Community Development Corp.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the meeting, Milum informed the council that the city\u2019s response to the U.S. Census stands at 41.9 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideally, he said, he would like to reach a success rate of more than 90 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the local school district plays a role during a census countdown, classes are being suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reason behind that is because of today\u2019s pandemic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By TONY VINDELLLFN LOS FRESNOS &#8211; Although the Los Fresnos City Council did not take action to award a bid to a company that will build the city\u2019s new hike and bike trail, the project has advanced one step closer.
