{"id":12252,"date":"2020-10-15T19:45:20","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T19:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=12252"},"modified":"2020-10-15T19:45:20","modified_gmt":"2020-10-15T19:45:20","slug":"los-fresnos-nature-park-an-ecotourism-jewel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=12252","title":{"rendered":"Los Fresnos Nature Park an ecotourism jewel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>The butterfly garden under construction at the Los Fresnos Nature Park.<\/em><\/strong> Photo: Tony Vindell \/ LFN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By TONY VINDELL<br><\/strong>LFN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone not taking a look at the Los Fresnos Nature Park should think twice.<br>The outdoors facility, off North Arroyo Boulevard also known as FM 1847, is having quite a few changes done since it opened to the public several years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to its walking trail and children\u2019s playground, the park now has a bird viewing area equipped with blinds and an amphitheater.<br>The latest addition is a butterfly garden and a wildlife pond that are under construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desi Martinez, a liaison with the Los Fresnos Community Development Corp., gave an update of the park during the EDC\u2019s Monday, Oct. 5, meeting.<br>He said some things are about to be completed, while others are right behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cClose to ninety-nine percent of the birding area has been completed,\u201d he told the board. \u201cThe butterfly garden is moving along.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of its location, which borders a resaca on the south side and another across from Arroyo Boulevard, the park is in an ideal place for native and migratory birds and butterflies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"653\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park2.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/park2-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>A wildlife pond being built at the park. <\/strong><\/em>Photo: Tony Vindell \/ LFN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Several species of egrets, mockingbirds, great kiskadees, green jays, kingbirds and even kingfishers are commonly seen in and around the park.<br>Martinez said he has been reaching out to the community about what Los Fresnos has today via social media and person-to-person contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t stress enough the point about what we have,\u201d he said. \u201cThe new ecotourism venue Los Fresnos is going to have will be outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For ballots by mail, please send them to: Elections Administrator, P.O.
