Anyone noticing the familiar yellow buses going by all over the area is because they have either been picking up or dropping off students as Los Fresnos school district is now in session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the message issued out by city, chamber of commerce and school officials is to \u201cSlow Down\u201d around any school zone as these yellow buses are generally seen during early morning and afternoon hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school district delayed its school year by about two months due to the Covid-19 pandemic and began having classes on an online, or remote, basis on Oct. 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new school year usually begins around the middle of August but this year was the exception as a health crisis hit all corners of the country, including Los Fresnos and the entire Rio Grande Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The district has a student population of nearly 11,000 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gonzalo Salazar, the district\u2019s superintendent, has said that about one-third of the student population is attending classes right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That means 3,600-plus students are commuting to their respective schools.
For that reason, it\u2019s important to slow down and to pay attention to the new school zone hours, which are as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Los Fresnos High School<\/strong>
    Morning:\u00a0\u00a0Start time 8:00 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0End time 8:45 a.m.
    Afternoon:\u00a0\u00a0Start time 4:00 p.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0End time 4:45 p.m.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
    • Lopez- Riggins Elementary<\/strong>
      Morning:\u00a0\u00a0Start time 7:00 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0End time 7:30 a.m.
      Afternoon:\u00a0\u00a0Start time 2:45 p.m.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0End time 3:15 p.m.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      • Los Fresnos Elementary<\/strong>
