Not a true lily, it is very comfortable in the Valley as long as it is in well-drained soil with plenty of sunshine. Each stalk (or scape) has many blooms but each bloom lasts only a day- as it name suggests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daylilies come in a rainbow of colors with solid colors, different colored bloom centers, stripes, eye-zones, ruffled edges, petite sized, single and double blooms for a few of the choices. So, if you want flowers from early spring to late fall, look for the appropriate types. They come in \u201c very early blooming\u201d, \u201cearly season\u201d, \u201cmid-season\u201d, and \u201clate blooming\u201d as examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_7363.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_7363.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_7363-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMG_7363-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>Eyespot bloom.<\/strong><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Some daylilies are \u201cdormant\u201d and are not what is recommended for our Valley since these types need a dormant season to regroup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Look for \u201csemi-evergreen\u201d and \u201cevergreen\u201d instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HINTS: <\/strong>There is no need to dig them up for winter nor trim the leaves unless you are digging them up to move or separate the clumps. Move the \u201cfans\u201d (divisions) to other beds. This might need to be done every 3 years or so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Local nurseries will carry a few varieties of daylilies.
