A new Los Fresnos mayor has taken the oath of office and will be the head of the municipal government for the next three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alejandro \u201cAlex\u201d Flores was sworn in by Brownsville Municipal Court Judge Rigoberto Flores during Monday\u2019s, Nov 16. special meeting of Los Fresnos City Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new mayor thanked his supporters and said he is going to work toward the betterment of the city and its residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was born in Brownsville and have been living here for quite some time,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a great place to live and a great place to raise a family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flores said he is a 42 year old financial advisor who feels he will do his job as the city continues to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had said fixing the city\u2019s drainage system and bringing more businesses to town are his top priorities as mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A goal of his administration will be enticing a Whataburger restaurant to open a franchise here – something the town people have been asking for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His swearing-in took place after the votes in the Nov. 3 election were canvassed thus making the results official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were only two local races. One for mayor and the other for the Place 1 seat on the city council,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flores, who ran unopposed, received 1,727 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Place 1 seat, former mayor Polo Narvaez took 1,189, while Gordon Cappon, a retired state employee, garnered 770 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The special meeting marked the first time it was held and was attended by a good number of people since the pandemic began last March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everybody followed health department recommendations such as keeping a six feet distance and wearing face masks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
