{"id":12469,"date":"2020-12-03T18:11:48","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T18:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=12469"},"modified":"2020-12-03T18:11:48","modified_gmt":"2020-12-03T18:11:48","slug":"isla-blanca-park-south-end-getting-a-facelift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=12469","title":{"rendered":"Isla Blanca Park south end getting a facelift"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4874.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4874.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4874-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4874-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><em><strong>New sidewalks and lot pavement getting a facelift.<\/strong><\/em> Photos: Tony Vindell \/ LFN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By TONY VINDELL<br><\/strong>LFN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The southern end of Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island is getting a facelift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The old restrooms, parking lot and walkway area are being upgraded thanks to an infusion of some $300,000 the Cameron County Parks System received to bring the facility on par with the improvements made on the other end of the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The south end is a popular place for hundreds of fishing enthusiasts and for families and park users who prefer a less congested place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area has been closed since September creating some discomfort as people have to leave their vehicle in the parking lot of a pavilion and walk toward the jetty with all their fishing gear with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To use the restrooms they also have to walk from the jetty to the pavilion.<br>And because of the ongoing work, a baitstand where people buy frozen bait, fishing supplies, drinks and snacks has also been closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Park Director Joe Vega said all work there should be completed by the middle of this month (December).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4873.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4873.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4873-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_4873-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>The restrooms on the southern end of Isla Blanca Park are being remodeled.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe restrooms are more than ninety percent completed,\u201d he said last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are now working on the parking lot using an in-house crew.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vega said about $150,000 was allocated to the restroom project and another $150,000 for the parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The money came from Certificates of Obligation and from the county\u2019s Capital Improvement Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the restrooms will have new lighting, plumbing and electrical fixtures, shower heads and stalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverything is going to look real nice,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is going to stay with us for many, many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By TONY VINDELLLFN The southern end of Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island is getting a facelift.
