{"id":12496,"date":"2020-12-10T19:53:10","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=12496"},"modified":"2020-12-10T19:53:11","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T19:53:11","slug":"area-wildlife-on-display-at-brownsville-museum-of-fine-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=12496","title":{"rendered":"Area wildlife on display at Brownsville Museum of Fine Art"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"980\" height=\"692\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/museum.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/museum.jpg 980w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/museum-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/museum-768x542.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><figcaption><strong><em>Deyanira Ramirez, the executive director of the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, talks about the wildlife display shown at the museum. <\/em><\/strong>Photo: Tony Vindell \/ LFN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By TONY VINDELL<br><\/strong>LFN<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone who wants to check out some of the unique wildlife the Rio Grande Valley has to offer can do so by stopping at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A collection of 30-plus paintings and prints by renowned artist Don Breeden is on display at the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Titled \u201cThrough My Eyes The Art of Don Breeden\u201d the exhibit is open to the public for viewing during the museum\u2019s hours of 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His collections include paintings and illustrations of birds, four-legged critters, sea turtles and some of the fish and animals that inhabit the Laguna Madre area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That includes nilgai antelope, white-tailed deer, and javelinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Birds such as whistling ducks, a cara cara eagle, quail, a roseate spoonbill and a white-winged dove are also part of the collection; so are fish species like flounder, tarpon, tuna and a colorful octopus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deyanira Ramirez, the museum executive director, said Breeden was a member of the organization\u2019s board and he is a longtime supporter of the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe is honoring us with some of his work,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is a collection of paintings and illustrations made by a local artist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the Breeden exhibit, Ramirez said the museum is also hosting a second one about the many resacas found throughout the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said more than two dozen photographers and painters are participating in the display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both exhibits will be on display through Jan. 2, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an unrelated matter, the museum is having a Christmastime online auction of local and international artwork, products and services donated by the community to raise funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To bid, please use a smartphone to go to BMFAUS to 243-725.<br>The auction ends Saturday Dec. 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum is at 660 E.
