The 2021 Cameron County Fair & Livestock Show will be held even though a number of events such as Los Fresnos Rodeo and others throughout the Rio Grande Valley have been canceled for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the latest announced on Monday, Dec. 7, by Valerie Arizmendi, the livestock show president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She told Los Fresnos Economic Development Board of Directors that their committee decided to go with the event that has been held in conjunction with the annual rodeo for a number of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the livestock show will take place under a different format follow guidelines concerning the current state of health created by the Covid-19 virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One such change is the date it will be held. Instead of being the second weekend of February, this time it will take place the first weekend, from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, the popular home show, bake sale and arts and craft activities have been canceled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students participating will be able to show their pigs, goats, rabbits and steers in a sort of revolving door fashion to prevent the concentration of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to that, the calf scramble and the pee wee and old timer show will not take place this year. A queen will be chosen from the senior class of the local high school only and the annual scholarship give away will take place as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arizmendi addressed the CDC board as an item of the meeting agenda called for sponsorship approval for the county organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board allocated $10,000, which is the amount it approved for the 2020 livestock show. The money is then distributed among the scholarship recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other action, the board approved another sponsorship for the Los Fresnos Rodeo scholarship program event though the city\u2019s largest event of the year \u2013 the PRCA-sanctioned rodeo \u2013 was canceled over safety and health concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
