Donations to area schools will enhance science education programs at elementary schools.The developer of three wind projects in Cameron County has announced donations to Los Fresnos CISD to enhance science education at the district\u2019s nine elementary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACCIONA, owner and operator of San Roman Wind Farm, Palmas Altas Wind Farm, and the soon-to-be-completed La Chalupa Wind Farm, said the donations of more than $40,000 are funded by the operation of the two wind farms through its annual social impact management program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wind farms are located within the boundaries of Los Fresnos CISD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese donations will give young students at Los Fresnos schools access to cutting edge tools to help them learn the latest in science and engineering,\u201d said Rafael Esteban, CEO of ACCIONA\u2019s energy division in North America. \u201cOur hope is that this will help give them strengthen their foundation on which they can build a lifetime of success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The donation will allow the district to expand its participation in Project Lead the Way to all of its Pre-K students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Through the modules, we have purchased, these young students will begin to learn about topics like ‘why we wash our hands’ and ‘how animals build their homes,’ ” said Valarie Londrie, Executive Director of Academics at Los Fresnos CISD. “These early health and engineering topics help set the students on the path to success in math and science.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Londrie hopes that more than 500 Pre-K students will use the modules this spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful for the support Acciona has provided to each of our elementary campuses throughout the district,” Londrie said. “We believe by introducing our youngest students to STEM education and the engineering design process, we deliver on our mission to provide a quality educational experience and open doors to careers of the future,\u201d Londrie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acciona\u2019s social impact management program works with local stakeholders to identify opportunities to advance community needs, typically in the areas of education, wellness, or environmental improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
