Woods finished with a career 738 wins, making her the winningest coach in Rio Grande Valley volleyball history and ranks 21st
the state in wins according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

“I have done this for a long time,” Woods said. “I just felt it was time. I had really battled back and forth on whether to retire or not. Someone will come in and take over, we have really great kids in the program. They are going to do OK without me, they will win. Those kids are all winners.”

Along with the 738 career wins, Woods collected 14 district titles, 18 bi-district titles, seven area crowns, four regional quarterfinals appearances,
and four trips to the Sweet 16. Woods is also a member of the RGV Sports Hall of Fame. She was inducted in 2016.

“After our bi-district loss, I told the girls I was probably not coming back. It was hard because some of those girls I had for three years and they will be seniors next year. If I didn’t retire now, I don’t know when I would have. I would have liked to have made it to 40 years but sometimes your body just tells you.” Woods said.

Now Woods will focus on life after coaching. She plans to spend more time with her mother, who is from Iowa, and sit back and enjoy things she
did not have the time for while coaching.

“I plan on spending time with my mom and doing a bunch of things that I was never able to do,” Woods said. “I’d like to do some traveling, I
love to swim, I want to get in that pool and hit it hard. I’m not one to sit
back, I have to stay active.”

Woods who is from Osceola, Iowa moved to the RGV in 1986 to coach
physical education and was named the volleyball coach for the Lady

Falcons.
