{"id":13804,"date":"2022-08-18T15:45:56","date_gmt":"2022-08-18T21:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=13804"},"modified":"2022-08-18T15:45:56","modified_gmt":"2022-08-18T21:45:56","slug":"5th-annual-los-fresnos-cowboy-cook-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=13804","title":{"rendered":"5th Annual Los Fresnos Cowboy Cook Off"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los Fresnos, August 3, 2022: The Los Fresnos Rodeo will be hosting its 5th Annual Los Fresnos Cowboy Cook Off at the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds on September 16th and 17th, 2022 sanctioned by the Champions Barbecue Alliance \u201cCBA\u201d, The Los Fresnos Cowboy Cook Off is also a State of Texas Championship Qualifying Event. The cooking teams will be arriving on the 16th to prepare for the event starting early on the 17th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/laferianews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/cookoff.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17079\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The General Public is invited (no charge) to the Cowboy Cook Off on Saturday, September 17th starting at 9:00 am where besides the Cowboy Cook Off we will be hosting local Live Bands, Pony Rides, Classic Car Show, Food Vendor and a Market Place where local artisans will be peddling their wares. The public can also vote for their favorite participating People\u2019s Choice Cooking Team which will be handing out samples of the food they prepare at the cook off. We will be handing out tickets where the public can pick their favorite team by placing their People\u2019s Choice Ticket in the cooking teams spot. The team with the most tickets is the People\u2019s Choice Winner. This year we have a new event for kids to participate in the cook off. We have slots for 20 kids in two age groups (6 &#8211; 11) and (12 &#8211; 16). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a small entry fee of $25, but we will be giving the kids a grill, the meat (Pork Chops) and charcoal, plus a Kids Q T-Shirt. All the kids need to bring is their barbecue knowhow and spices. This should be a great addition to our Cowboy Cook Off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KIDS Q RULES \u2014 The Los Fresnos Cowboy Cook-Off presents the 2022 KIDS Q<br>This event will challenge the next generation of BBQ competitors to practice and refine their BBQ talent. Each team will consist of no more than 1 (one) individual &amp; one<br>supervisor over 18 years of age. Teams will compete by age in one of the two age divisions, 6-11 and 12-16. Limit of 10 (ten) teams for each division and the first ten to submit registration and payment on each division will be allowed to compete. (Registration and check can mailed, done on-line or in person on day of event)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>An adult (at least 18 yrs. old) must accompany the children, but the children will have to do all of the preparation, seasoning &amp; cooking on their own.<br>Each team will be provided with a BBQ Charcoal Grill, Charcoal and Meat for that division, one Kids Q T-shirt and Competition Space.<br>Judging Criteria &#8211; Presentation, Taste, &amp; Texture<br>Awards in each age division:<br>1st Plaque<br>2nd Plaque<br>3rd Plaque<br>4th &#8211; 10th Place Ribbons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Rules and Regulations<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>No motorized vehicles will be allowed in the Kids Q<br>competition area.<\/li><li>Competitors will be required to attend the Cook\u2019s meeting at<br>8:00 am at the Lions Hall at the Rodeo Grounds on<br>Saturday, September 17, 2022.<\/li><li>Entry fee to participate in the Kids Q is $25.00 per team.<\/li><li>Each participating team will receive 1 (one) 9\u201dx9\u201d Styrofoam<br>judging container for turn-in of entries at the cooks meeting<br>on Saturday 17th.<\/li><li>An adult over the age of 18 must be present on-site at all<br>times \u2013 from set up to tear down for each participating team.<br>Any team not under adult supervision will be disqualified.<\/li><li>All BBQ Grills will be lit by a Kids Q Official only<\/li><li>Teams MUST use provided Grills and Charcoal. Ingredients<br>such as seasonings, rubs, etc are the responsibIlity of the<br>Teams. Each MUST use the provided meat for the<br>appropriate age division.<\/li><li>Teams will turn-in at least <strong>__<\/strong> pieces of their cooked<br>entry, using the provided numbered Styrofoam judging<br>container. Entry must fit in the 9\u201dx9\u201d provided Styrofoam<br>container.<\/li><li>Each team will be assigned a cooking space and is asked to<br>keep their equipment (i.e.Grill, chairs, ice chest, BBQ<br>equipment or EZ up Canopy within their designated area.<\/li><li>Teams must clean, prepare, and cook their entry at their<br>assigned cooking site and meat must be held on ice at a<br>temperature of 40 degrees or less prior to cooking. Meat<br>must be held in its own separate cooler.<\/li><li>Team participants must do all preparations, seasoning and<br>cooking of their entry. The supervising adult may only assist<br>in the sectioning of the any meat and any emergency<br>dealings with the lit or hot BBQ pits. Adult participation<br>outside of these boundaries will cause the entire team to be<br>disqualified.<\/li><li>The official turn in time will be <strong><em>__<\/em><\/strong> pm. No late entries<br>will be accepted.<\/li><li>Teams must hold their cooked items at a temperature of 140<br>degrees (f) or higher until turn in.<\/li><li>Each team must turn in a minimum of <strong><em>__<\/em><\/strong> pieces of<br>their cooked entry in the numbered container. Only the entry<br>meat is allowed in the turn in box.<\/li><li>The judging for this event will be in accordance with<br>Champions Barbecue Alliance judging procedures to ensure<br>the integrity of the event. All decisions by the \u201cJudges\u201d are<br>final. Plague Awards will be presented from 1st \u2013 3rd places<br>and ribbons for the rest in each age division during the Los<br>Fresnos Cowboy Cook-Off awards ceremony, Saturday<br>September 17, 2022 beginning at <strong><em>_<\/em><\/strong> pm.<\/li><li>Judging scores will be tabulated in accordance with CBA<br>Judging Procedures on Appearance, Taste &amp; Tenderness.<\/li><li>Each team is responsible for the clean-up of their assigned<br>cooking area, grey water disposal, trash and hot ash<br>disposal in designated containers placed within the Kids Q<br>area.<\/li><li>Failure to follow any of these rules will cause for<br>disqualification of the team.<\/li><li>Each team is expected to HAVE A GREAT TIME!<br>As of today, we have some great sponsors supporting this event.
