Salazar showed why on Tuesday Night as Los Fresnos defeated PSJA North 61-52.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After being outscored in the first quarter, Los Fresnos turned the tide and outscored the Raiders in each quarter. Despite outscoring the Raiders in the second quarter, powered by a 12-point second by Salazar, the Falcons still trailed 32-30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A tough task for the Falcons, the Raiders were led by the freshman-senior duo of Mason Lopez and Gianni Beltran, both who finished with over 20 points.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuing to be a back-and-forth shootout between the Raiders and Falcons, Luis Ramirez and Luis Guerra teamed up to dominate the boards for Los Fresnos, picking up 10 points from second chance buckets. Despite Beltran being the key rebounder and leading scorer for PSJA North, Los Fresnos would Hold on to win 61-52.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe guys came to compete, We played a great game\u201d, said Falcons Head Coach Marco Hinojosa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the rough first quarter, Hinojosa made some adjustments. \u201cWe pride ourselves on defense and always say offense will take care of itself, that didn\u2019t happen in the first\u201d, said Hinojosa. \u201cThere were some adjustments and we finally woke up, won the rest of the quarters and that\u2019s what basketball is about. This team has shown a lot of fight this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A core of returners for the Falcons, JJ Salazar, Gio Galvan, Jude Barrera, Luis Ramos and Luis Guerra all contributed to Los Fresnos\u2019 win. \u201cThis season, our motto is \u2018We over Me\u2019.We know that\u2019s what it\u2019s going to take\u201d, said Hinojosa. \u201cThese guys are very unselfish, We\u2019re averaging about 14-15 assists per game. They trust each other and we have balanced scoring\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salazar, who led the Falcons offense with 28 points, spoke on his performance alongside his teammates. \u201cOur team was able to limit them and we rebounded the ball well\u201d said Los Fresnos Junior JJ Salazar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Down 18-13 at the end of the first, Salazar and company knew that they needed to get in gear. \u201cCoach talked to us and we just took it all in\u201d, said Salazar. \u201cWe came here, it was an hour drive. I wasn\u2019t going to lose and neither were my teammates. We just wanted it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In what was a power struggle for the lead between LF and PSJAN, Salazar had a 12-point second quarter to turn the tide and sparked the offense for the Falcons. \u201cThey were able to help me get open. When I was not open, my team did a great job in attacking and getting to the basket\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the win Los Fresnos improved to 12-4. The Falcons will compete in this weekend\u2019s City of Palms Classic in McAllen. \u201cWe\u2019re there to get better, we got Alice to come Thursday, and we\u2019ll have our hands full\u201d, said Hinojosa. \u201cIt\u2019s been a fun tournament the past couple of years. Looking forward to getting better and preparing for district\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m ready, it\u2019s going to be fun.
