The Brite Minds Summer Enrichment Program at The Children\u2019s Museum of Brownsville will be conducting a Citizen Science Research Project for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology on Tuesday, June 18.<\/p>\nThe Brite Minds Summer Enrichment Program at The Children\u2019s Museum of Brownsville will be conducting a Citizen Science Research Project for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology on Tuesday, June 18.<\/p>\n
The project is called \u201cCelebrate Urban Birds\u201d (Celebra las Aves Urbanas). Students will pick an area that is about 50 feet X 50 feet and will observe and record the birds they see within a 10 minute time period. We will then send our results back to the scientists at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where they will use the information to help learn how birds use urban habitats.<\/p>\n
As a \u201cthank you\u201d the students will receive a beautiful celebration poster featuring city birds, sunflower seeds so they can grow their own \u201cnatural birdfeeders\u201d in pots or gardens, a cool facts poster, and a Certificate of Appreciation from Cornell Lab of Ornithology.<\/p>\n
The Children\u2019s Museum of Brownsville hopes to use this citizen science project to spark an interest in science, as well as making students aware of the amazing diversity of bird species in our own urban area.<\/p>\n

\nEstablished in 2005, the museum\u2019s mission is to introduce children to a world of learning through hands on, creative and interactive exhibits, workshops and special events. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, noon to 4 pm. Monday closed during the school year and open in the summer 12-5p.
