On April 4, 2023, the library hosted its popular “Tots & Tales” storytime event to the delight of many little ones and their parents. Last week\u2019s event was extra special as they had an esteemed guest reader in attendance – the master gardener and newspaper columnist, Mrs. Norma Cruz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


With Earth Day being April 22, the library decided to tie in the theme of growing and nurturing with their storytime selection. Mrs. Cruz kept the young audience engaged as she read aloud the book “Planting Rainbows” by Lois Ehlert. The story follows the progress of a mother and daughter in their backyard as they plant bulbs, seeds, and seedlings and nurture their growth into flowers. Bold, spare text and dazzling illustrations will inspire readers to take a closer look at the natural world and maybe even start a garden of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The toddlers were fascinated by the idea that plants need water, sun, and care to grow. It\u2019s important to teach children to care for nature. A lesson for kids to learn at such a tender age is wonderful!
After Mrs. Cruz’s reading, the little ones were given the exciting opportunity to try their hand at planting seeds. Each child was provided with a small pot, soil, and seeds to take home and watch grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “Tots & Tales” storytime event was an excellent demonstration of how literature and gardening can go hand in hand. By master gardener, Norma Cruz and the Library introducing kids to the joys of growing and nurturing, they not only fostered an appreciation for nature but also encouraged a sense of responsibility towards our planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


As a result of the library’s efforts, the little ones left with smiles on their faces, a plant to care for, and a newfound love for gardening. The library’s “Tots & Tales” event proved yet again how valuable such programs can be in enriching young minds and fostering a love for learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
