Non-district is always known as a way to see where a team is heading into the district calendar. With the way the Falcons played, they were certainly ready for the challenge of District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To open up district play, the Falcons took on Brownsville Veterans Memorial. A high scoring first quarter, the Falcons and Chargers both went on the offensive. A combined 37 point quarter ended with Los Fresnos in the lead 22-15. What continued to be a close knit battle saw both the Falcons and Chargers continue to fight for the lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, both teams kept the high scoring affair going, but a late score by the Falcons allowed Los Fresnos to hold on and win 67-59.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heading into the second meeting, the Falcons hosted district foe Harlingen. Over the last few seasons, the Cardinals and Falcons have had some battles in District play, even competing for the District title on a few occasions. Last season, two of Los Fresnos\u2019 three district losses came at the hands of Harlingen High. This year, the trend of close battles with the Cardinals continued as both teams battled to the very end. However, it was Los Fresnos who was able to defend the home court and win a thriller 76-70.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The win marked some key milestones, notably being Head Coach Marco Hinojosa\u2019s 300th career win at the helm for the Falcons. The victory also marked Los Fresnos\u2019 first win against Harlingen since February 7, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 2-0, Los Fresnos will take on Brownsville Hanna next, then take a week off before resuming 32-6A action against San Benito on February 24.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
