Students enrolled in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Construction Tech and Electrical Tech courses at Los Fresnos CISD are actively participating in a practical project at the PLC center, which provides important hands-on training. These CTE courses equip students with essential technical skills required for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and construction systems. The curriculum covers a range of topics, including carpentry, concrete work, masonry, HVAC, plumbing, and various electrical trades. This comprehensive training prepares students for both residential and commercial building construction and remodeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, students are engaged in demolition work at the back of the PLC center, with plans to install new drywall, contingent on time availability. This hands-on experience is critical to their education, helping them develop the skills and knowledge necessary for future careers in construction and electrical fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project not only offers practical training but also benefits from financial support provided by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Through this program, students receive compensation for their work, allowing them to earn income while gaining invaluable experience. This initiative not only enhances the educational experience but also supports students’ financial needs. Research indicates that high school students who participate in CTE courses are more likely to secure employment after graduation compared to their peers who do not engage in CTE programs. Furthermore, the earnings of CTE participants are comparable to those of students who did not take such courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hands-on training at the PLC center illustrates the effectiveness of CTE Construction Tech and Electrical Tech courses in preparing students for the workforce. By working on real projects, students are able to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings, which enhances their learning experience and builds their confidence in their abilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the project advances, the dedication and hard work of the students are evident in their demolition efforts and their commitment to potentially installing new drywall. This project represents a significant milestone in their educational journey, equipping them with the necessary tools and experience to thrive in the construction and electrical industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collaboration between CTE Construction Tech and Electrical Tech courses and the TWC highlights the importance of practical training and financial support in vocational education. This initiative serves as an exemplary model for other educational programs, demonstrating how the integration of hands-on experience and financial incentives can effectively benefit students and prepare them for successful careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
