This year, the tournament will take place from July 30 to August 3, 2025, marking its 85th annual event and attracting hundreds of anglers from across the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Texas’s largest saltwater fishing tournament, TIFT draws over 1,500 anglers and more than 500 boats, making it a must-see event for fishing enthusiasts and families alike. Every child registered in the tournament will receive a trophy for their efforts, highlighting TIFT’s commitment to family-friendly fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament features three divisions: bay, tarpon, and offshore, allowing fishermen of all ages to showcase their skills and compete across various categories. The Texas International Fishing Tournament has a rich history dating back to 1933 when Doc J.A. Hockaday founded it. The primary goal behind its inception was to showcase the exceptional fishing opportunities that the Rio Grande Valley offers to anglers from around the world. Over the years, TIFT has consistently remained an annual event, with the exception of World War II. It has transformed from its humble beginnings as a tarpon-fishing competition to become Texas’s largest and most prestigious saltwater tournament.
