Volunteer signup for Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup open<\/em><\/h3>\n

\"vcsPRAsset_793424_119241_1719f245-dd00-4d05-97b6-f7053e052d4c_0\"(AUSTIN, Texas) \u2014\u00a0<\/strong>As many as 10,000 Texans are expected to hit the beach Saturday, Sept. 27 for the biggest beach cleanup in the Lone Star State, the Texas General Land Office\u2019s Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup.<\/p>\n

The cleanup takes place at three beaches in the Rio Grande Valley, starting at 8:30 a.m. Post cleanup celebrations begin at noon.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome and join us for a good day of family fun with a purpose,\u201d said Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson.<\/p>\n

Volunteers can sign up online at\u00a0www.texasadoptabeach.org<\/a>\u00a0or just show up at any participating beach that morning, except for the sites at St. Joseph Island and the John M. O\u2019Quinn I-45 Estuarial Corridor and Virginia Point Peninsula Preserve, which require advance registration . Each volunteer will be given data cards, gloves, pencils and trash bags. All volunteers are advised to wear closed-toe shoes, bring sunscreen and plenty of drinking water.\u00a0 The Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Cleanups are held rain or shine!<\/p>\n

Texans who are not able to attend the cleanup can help keep their beaches clean by making a tax-deductible donation online atwww.TexasAdoptABeach.org<\/a>. There are several different Adopt-A-Beach sponsorship levels ranging from $25 to $25,000, allowing both individuals and corporations to contribute to this major cleanup effort.<\/p>\n

The Adopt-A-Beach program is an all-volunteer effort that began in 1986 in an effort to rid Texas beaches of litter.\u00a0 Since the program began, 465,000 volunteers have removed more than 8,900 tons of trash from the Texas coastline, making it one of the most successful volunteer efforts in the nation.<\/p>\n

Shell Oil Company is the lead statewide sponsor for the 28th<\/sup>\u00a0Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup. Other sponsors include Apache Corporation, Cheniere Energy, Corona Del Mar Properties, Flint Hills Resources, Halliburton, HNTB, The Ocean Conservancy and Schlumberger.<\/p>\n
