Jason Reyes says everyone has a role to play in preventing heatstroke, and he urges anyone who sees a child alone in a car to dial 911.<br \/>\n\u201cEvery year, children are dying because of the heat that\u2019s inside of a vehicle and so, that\u2019s why we want to remind all of our citizens of Texas to take every precaution to prevent these deaths,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3798\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3798\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3798\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/gr-46749-1-1.jpg\" alt=\" The Texas Department of Public Safety is urging parents, caretakers and the public to do their part to prevent vehicular heatstroke by never leaving a child inside a vehicle without an adult present. Dept. of Health Care Finance.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, temperatures inside a car can rise more than 20 degrees in only 10 minutes &#8211; and even with an outside temperature of 60 degrees, the temperature inside a car can reach 110.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes adds leaving windows partially rolled down doesn\u2019t help, and young children are particularly at risk since their bodies heat up faster than do adults\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes points out that parents busy running errands sometimes forget that children are with them.<\/p>\n<p>He says it helps to establish reminders, such as leaving a purse or cell phone near the child\u2019s car seat, to ensure you always check the back seat of a vehicle before walking away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve even heard somebody, a young woman who actually takes her shoe off, and puts that in the back seat,\u201d he relates. \u201cBecause when she opens the door to go somewhere, she\u2019s obviously not going to walk away with only one shoe. So that reminds her that, \u2018You know what, I\u2019ve got that shoe in the back seat, but also I have my child back there as well.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One-third of all heatstroke deaths occur when a child climbs into a parked car unnoticed.
