Once seen by the Dr. it’s our hope to be released with a clean bill of health but many times that’s not the case. Instead were told we need to implement a healthier lifestyle to help rid our bodies of diseases or the risk of diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and many more.

Don’t let Your Diagnosis Define You
Once diagnosed with an unwanted disease many of us leave the Dr.’s office discouraged and unmotivated, we might feel our diagnosis is our new label and untreatable. Let me be of encouragement to you, it’s never too late to change your lifestyle for the better.

A healthy and active lifestyle may bring many positive changes including the ability to prevent and treat high blood pressure and many other preventable and reversible diseases.

What to do?
Set small attainable goals for yourself and work hard to meet each one you set for yourself. Ask for positive support from family and friends. Set a goal for both becoming more physically active and to eat more nutritiously.

Physical Activity
Walking 30 minutes a day five times a week can help to rid the body of many unwanted diseases and can also help you to feel happier & more energetic. Exercise releases a feel good chemical in the body called endorphins. This is where the term runners high comes from and you don’t have to run to experience the rush! If 30 minutes is too much for you to get started let it be a goal for you to work towards.

Nutritious Eating
We’ve all hit that mid day crash, where you feel less energy and less productive in your day. Instead of reaching for a coke or candy bar to give you an energy boost.

Try having a full glass of cold water, cold water is known to help boost your metabolism and provide your body with added energy. Want more? Have a serving of fruit or a vegetable along with a hand full of unsalted nuts. Now you’ve not only hydrated your body, you’ve also added a natural energy boost to it. Quality in equals quality out!

Resources
American Heart Association
Health Guidance for Better Health

Attend one of the FREE exercise programs offered by the City of Los Fresnos at Los Fresnos Memorial Park.

For more information contact Christine De La Rosa, Los Fresnos Community Health Worker at 956-407-3348 or email at cdelarosa@citylf.us or Los Fresnos City Hall at 956-233-5768.

As we all know keeping up with our Annual Dr. visits are extremely important.
