AUSTIN<\/strong> \u2013 The Texas Education Agency today announced the nomination of 26 Texas public schools for national 2017 Blue Ribbon Schools recognition.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1982, Blue Ribbon Schools is a U.S. Department of Education program that recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels. The nominated schools in Texas include the following:<\/p>\n

* Amarillo ISD \u2013 Whittier Elementary School
\n* Banquete ISD \u2013 Banquete Elementary School
\n* Birdville ISD \u2013 Smithfield Elementary School
\n* Dallas ISD \u2013 Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy
\n* Dallas ISD \u2013 Dallas Environmental Science Academy
\n* Dallas ISD \u2013 Irma Lerma Rangel Women\u2019s Leadership School
\n* Edinburg CISD \u2013 Austin Elementary School
\n* Edinburg CISD \u2013 Jefferson Elementary School
\n* El Paso ISD \u2013 Green Elementary School
\n* El Paso ISD \u2013 Silva Health Magnet
\n* Galveston ISD \u2013 Austin Middle School
\n* Gunter ISD \u2013 Gunter Elementary School
\n* Houston ISD \u2013 Eastwood Academy
\n* Houston ISD \u2013 Lyons Elementary School
\n* Jim Ned CISD \u2013 Lawn Elementary School
\n* Judson ISD \u2013 Crestview Elementary School
\n* KIPP Houston \u2013 KIPP Shine Prep
\n* La Porte ISD \u2013 Jennie Reid Elementary School
\n* Laredo ISD \u2013 Hector J. Garcia Early College High School
\n* Los Fresnos ISD \u2013 Rancho Verde Elementary School<\/strong>
\n* Montgomery ISD \u2013 Montgomery Intermediate School
\n* Oakwood ISD \u2013 Oakwood Elementary School
\n* San Antonio ISD \u2013 Travis Early College High School
\n* Whitehouse ISD \u2013 Stanton-Smith Elementary School
\n* Wylie ISD \u2013 RF Hartman Elementary School
\n* Ysleta ISD \u2013 Valle Verde Early College High School<\/p>\n

All schools that have been nominated for the 2017 honor were selected as exemplary high performing schools as measured by state assessments. Each school has an economically disadvantaged population of 22 percent or greater.<\/p>\n

The nominated schools must now complete a rigorous application process through the U.S. Department of Education. Announcements of the national award winners will be made in September 2017. Schools that receive the award are recognized at the Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
