The toughest decision was how to fairly determine which school should receive the supplies and backpacks.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Gomez with the DPS office in Brownsville coordinated the planning. She and 11E troopers who made donations were from Brownsville, Los Fresnos, Harlingen, and Port Isabel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe came up with a raffle idea, and wrote the names of 14 schools with the neediest children.\u201d Garza said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a visiting lieutenant draw the name of the school to receive the donations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Las Yescas Elementary was drawn from the hat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re here to serve the community.
