{"id":7288,"date":"2017-09-22T18:27:54","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T18:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=7288"},"modified":"2017-09-22T18:27:58","modified_gmt":"2017-09-22T18:27:58","slug":"board-approves-submitting-waiver-for-missed-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=7288","title":{"rendered":"Board Approves Submitting Waiver for Missed Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>by Ronnie Zamora\/LFCISD<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/170912-247x180-Board-Room.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7270\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/170912-247x180-Board-Room-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"170912-247x180-Board-Room\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/170912-247x180-Board-Room-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/170912-247x180-Board-Room-405x284.jpg 405w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/170912-247x180-Board-Room.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees approved submitting an application for a waiver for a missed school day at its regular meeting Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar explained the decision to call off classes on August 25 because of the threat of Hurricane Harvey.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When Harvey turned into a hurricane we decided \u2013 for the safety of students and staff and everyone involved \u2013 to go and call school (off) that day,&#8221; Salazar said. &#8220;Because the Governor made a disaster declaration that included Cameron County, we qualified for this waiver and we will not have to make up the school day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The waiver will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency, which had announced it would accept waiver requests from school districts in counties that declared disaster areas.<\/p>\n<p>Trustes also approved three new staff members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maria Alondra Del Angel Delgado, teacher, Villareal Elementary<\/li>\n<li>Marcelo Garza, programmer\/analyst, PEIMS\/MIS Office<\/li>\n<li>Josefina Ochoa, programmer\/analyst, PEIMS\/MIS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trustees also approved the following items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minutes for meeting held on August 28, 2017.<\/li>\n<li>Budget Amendment #1 for Fiscal Year 2017-2018.<\/li>\n<li>Renewal of agreements\/contracts for Professional Services, Medical Testing and Screening Services for the 2017-2018 school year \u2013 Pinnacle Medical Management Incorporated and Nova Medical Centers<\/li>\n<li>Memorandum of Understanding tween Los Fresnos CISD and Buckner Children and Family Services (STAR Program) for the 2017-2018 school year.<\/li>\n<li>Hospitality Contract Between Los Fresnos CISD and Isla Grand Resort, South Padre Island, for the 2017-2018 school year.Filing of a Class Size Waiver for third grade classes at Palmer-Laakso Elementary and Rancho Verde Elementary<\/li>\n<li>Substantial completion of the Pavement Rehabilitation at Villareal Elementary School.<\/li>\n<li>Agreements\/Contracts for CSP #16-17-35, High School Fire Alarm Upgrade, to Safeguard Fire of Mission, Texas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trustees were also presented financial reports and herald a presentation about the Communities in Schools program from Ada Amaro-Sibaja, Executive Director for Support Services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Ronnie Zamora\/LFCISD Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees approved submitting an application for a waiver for a missed school day at its regular meeting Monday.
