The Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee celebrated its inaugural Los Fresnos Cowboy Cook-off sanctioned by International Barbecue Cookers Association (IBCA) on Friday and Saturday, November 17 & 18, 2017.<\/p>\n

IBCA had its humble beginnings in 1988 when nine interested parties gathered to begin a new BBQ organization in Irving, Texas.<\/p>\n

Since membership in IBCA opened in 1989 the organization now boasts more than 700 members. IBCA sanctions competition events in five regions across the State of Texas and Los Fresnos hosted its first ever on Friday and Saturday, November 17 & 18, 2017.<\/p>\n

Thirty seven teams came out to test their BBQ cooking skills and a shot at the prizes. Many were also there just to take a load off and enjoy the attractions. In addition to the BBQ competition there was plenty for the entire family. There were food & beverage vendors, arts & crafts vendors, plenty of fun for the kids and live entertainment.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t take long for the air to be filled with great smelling BBQ smoke. Eddie Tapia who is the Assistant Regional Director for IBCA Region 3 served as Head Judge for the competition.<\/p>\n

Chris Ewing, Mark Marquez, Robby Walsdorf, Alex Martinez, Carlos Bruce, and Kerry Strader were six final judges of more than 100 judges that served in groups of seven to help judge during the cook-off for the Chicken, Brisket, Pan de Campo, Beans and Fajitas categories.<\/p>\n
