{"id":7915,"date":"2018-01-19T18:36:26","date_gmt":"2018-01-19T18:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=7915"},"modified":"2018-01-19T18:36:37","modified_gmt":"2018-01-19T18:36:37","slug":"new-year-looks-promising-for-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/?p=7915","title":{"rendered":"New Year Looks Promising for City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/losfres.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1502\" src=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/losfres.jpg\" alt=\"losfres\" width=\"448\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/losfres.jpg 448w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/losfres-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/losfres-405x260.jpg 405w, https:\/\/losfresnosnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/losfres-60x40.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If 2017 was a good year for the city, 2018 is already showing signs of a better time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Val Champion, the executive director with Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce, said the city is on the right path of progress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cWe had several new businesses opening here last year,\u201d he said, \u201cand we believe 2018 is going to be very active.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Champion said the new Los Fresnos UnderThe Stars Artisan Market launched in November was a success, adding the next market day is on Jan. 27th, with the following artisan market in February sheduled to be held at the rodeo grounds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The artisan market day, fashioned after similar events held in other cities such as Harlingen, Port Isabel and the many farmers markets throughout the Rio Grande Valley, will be held once a month until April of this year at Los Fresnos Memorial Park on North Arroyo Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But because of the upcoming annual rodeo next month, it was decided to have this February\u2019s market on the rodeo grounds as a show of support for the annual event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Champion said chamber members met recently with Arturo Garza, the chief executive officer with Valley Regional Medical Center, to explore the possibility of bringing a health clinic to town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He also said the liquified natural gas pipeline project going on south of here could benefit Los Fresnos because of the jobs it is creating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Champion and City Manager Mark Milum believe full time workers hired by the gas company might choose Los Fresnos because of its \u201cexcellent\u201d school district and its proximity to other cities like Brownsville and South Padre Island.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cWe are a family friendly suburban community,\u201d Champion said. \u201cWe have a lot to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN If 2017 was a good year for the city, 2018 is already showing signs of a better time.
