Fishing is starting to improve in both the Laguna Madre and in waters of the Gulf of Mexico.<\/p>\n

The sheepsheads are making their annual run along the jetties and whiting and speckled trout are back in good numbers, anglers said.<\/p>\n

But fish in the water doesn\u2019t translate onto food on the table.<\/p>\n

In other words, they have to be caught and here in Los Fresnos there is a new business that can help people in achieving that goal.<\/p>\n

Called Stringer\u2019s Rod and Reel Repair, the shop is a place where experienced or beginning anglers can stop to have repaired their favorite fishing equipment.<\/p>\n

The shop is in a strip mall across from the Los Fresnos rodeo grounds and is owned by Fidencio Reyes and William Brock<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can practically work on any kind of rod and reel,\u201d Brock said. \u201cWe also sell fishing gear and other supplies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shop is probably the first of its kind to open in Los Fresnos as anglers have been seeking such services elsewhere.<\/p>\n

There are several shops in nearby cities like in Brownsville, Harlingen and Laguna Heights where some people work in this same line of business.<\/p>\n

But having a rod and reel shop here is now going to make it easy for those used to travel an hour or more to have their fishing equipment fixed or to buy new one.<\/p>\n

For hundreds, if not thousands of Rio Grande Valley residents, fishing is a favorite hobby and one of the most rewarding.<\/p>\n
