Parents:<\/strong>\u00a0George L. and Lorraine R. Alvarez<\/p>\n

Siblings:<\/strong>\u00a0Alejandra 21, Javier 16, Karina 12.<\/p>\n

Previously:<\/strong>\u00a0Lopez-Riggins Elementary,\u00a0Los Cuates Middle School<\/p>\n

College:<\/strong>\u00a0St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. It’s a very\u00a0close-knit campus, they have a low teacher-student ratio and engineering programs. I have visited the campus on several occasions and it feels like home.<\/p>\n

Major:<\/strong>\u00a0Electrical Engineering.<\/p>\n

Inspiration for academic success:<\/strong>\u00a0My parents have always inspired me to do my best in school. They stressed the importance of education and have proven that it can be done. My dad works full-time, served two tours in Iraq, is now a retired U.S. Army SGM and completed his master\u2019s degree. He is a first-generation college graduate. My mom completed her master\u2019s degree after being a classroom teacher for more than 17 years while raising four children and keeping us involved in extracurricular activities. My parents have always reminded me of how blessed I am and not waste any opportunities that I have been given.<\/p>\n

Study habits:<\/strong>\u00a0As far back as I can remember, I would always have to get my homework done before I could do anything else. It just seemed easier to get my work done and then I could get to my video games or sports. As a senior, it has been hard to get anything done. My parents joke that I got this far with them never actually seeing me do homework, and tell me \u201cimagine if you really tried!\u201d After all these years of making sure, everything was done beforehand, I have taken a more relaxed approach to my senior year.<\/p>\n

Plans after college<\/strong>: I plan to take advantage of the combined five-year program that St. Mary\u2019s University offers to work on my master’s degree while completing my bachelor’s degree. I am confident that I can attain this partly because of the Dual College courses that I took while attending LFHS.<\/p>\n

Career plans:<\/strong>\u00a0I am still undecided as to where I hope to set down roots but I hope to experience internships while in college to find out exactly where my strengths are. I would like to build relationships and network with companies so that I can find the best fit for me.<\/p>\n

Advice to younger students to succeed academically:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0I think it is important to always stay on top of your homework and deadlines. I think that taking on one thing at a time allows you to do many great things. Take classes that you enjoy and that will challenge you to be better. I also think it is important to be involved in not only school but also your community. My parents have instilled my faith and the importance of service. Being involved at our church Holy Family has allowed me to be a better person all around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
