Photo: Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>by Tony Vindell\/LFN<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Construction of the city\u2019s first neighborhood park has been completed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And to mark the realization of the outdoor facility, city and chamber of commerce officials held Thursday, April 26, a ceremony to unveil the park on West Ninth Street.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Called Montes- Castro Park, the facility was built with funds allocated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the city, each entity contributing $75,000 to the project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mayor Polo Narvaez said the park will serve its purpose to a sector of the population.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a good project,\u201d he said. \u201cThe land was donated to us and we came up with the funds to build it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">During a city council meeting, City Manager Mark Milum said the park was finally built even though it took longer than anticipated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty nice project,\u201d he told the council. \u201cThe contractor did a pretty good job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He announced at the meeting that a ribbon cutting ceremony was scheduled for April 26, and it was held Thursday as planned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u2018We have already seen kids playing at the park,\u201d Milum said. \u201cAnd you can even hear birds singing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The park has a children\u2019s playground, two BBQ pits, eight benches, two picnic tables, two water fountains, and plants some of which are known to attract birds and butterflies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Tony Vindell\/LFN Construction of the city\u2019s first neighborhood park has been completed.
