Javier Vera, a life-long resident of Brownsville, family man, CPA, and U.S. licensed Custom Broker, is a candidate in the upcoming Port of Brownsville election to be held on May 5, 2018. He brings over 35 years of proven and established experience, expertise and leadership as a no-nonsense CPA and former auditor of the Brownsville Navigation District and taxpayers of Cameron County.

He is not a single issue candidate and will bring to this position his many years of experience and expertise in international trade and laws as well as finance and business.

Per Javier, “This is a serious position that requires someone with keen, proven knowledge and experience who can roll up their sleeves, and immediately hit the ground running to serve the community’s taxpayers and our Port of Brownsville’s many diverse needs.”

Added Javier, “The Port Commissioner position is not for someone who thinks that they can just come in and start making fast and furious changes as it doesn’t offer much time for a learning curve. It requires working with the other port commissioners, other leaders – local, regional and international, and other port residents – current and new; who are stakeholders looking to our Port of Brownsville to expand and or establish their presence all while maintaining the integrity of the Port of Brownsville. It will be highly important to always carefully consider the environmental impacts to our precious lower Laguna Madre area.”

Stated Javier, “I would be honored to serve as your Port Commissioner as it will allow me to utilize my background and be a strong advocate on your behalf at our Port. It is because of my background in finance, that I pledge to our taxpayers that I will always be looking out for their interests as well, and assure that the Port is fiscally responsible with all financial matters – all while creating economic growth, educational and job opportunities.” Added Javier, “Through the accounting firm I represented in the past, I have personally audited our Port’s finances many times, so I’m very familiar with their financial structure.”

Javier Vera currently serves as Alderman at the Town of Rancho Viejo and serves on the Texas State Commission for Lawyer Discipline. As a CPA, he has been the Auditor for the Brownsville Navigation District, Amfels, BRG Railroad as well as for governmental and for-profit entities. He is a past Board member and Chairman of the Brownsville Housing Authority, BISD Facilities Needs Committee, West Brownsville Little League Board and Coach, a Graduate of Leadership Brownsville, Treasurer of Brownsville Jaycees, and Charter Member of Sunrise Rotary Club. He and his wife, Nancy are parents to three grown children – Adam, Kiley and Dana. He attended catholic schools in Brownsville and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a B.B.A in Accounting.

He has been a licensed CPA for over 35 years as well as a U.S. Licensed Custom Broker having served for 22 years as the CFO for a U.S.– Mexico Custom Brokerage Logistical and Freight Forwarding Company. He is completely bilingual in English and Spanish and sees this is as an important factor when dealing with many of the Port’s growing Mexico and South American clientele.

Pro-business, no-nonsense CPA and Auditor, vows looking out for taxpayers at Port of Brownville Brownsville, TX, April 25, 2018.
